Representatives of renewable energy associations demanded the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) to implement a regulation on electricity storage to support power plants.
Héctor Olea, president of the Mexican Solar Energy Association, said that the CRE has not yet taken any action to promote the issue of electricity storage, which is a short-term solution in which the private sector can invest. “The CRE would play an important role, but unfortunately we do not see that there is a priority in the regulatory agenda to move towards storage. That is what is hindering the development of a renewable energy storage industry. “Electric energy storage through batteries is not restricted to the private sector, you can invest whatever, and in a technological way the new storage solutions allow to avoid bottlenecks,” said Olea.
Leopoldo Rodríguez Olivé, president of the Mexican Wind Energy Association (Amdeo), said that the storage issue will become clearer over time.
